Die Aktie wäre wohl auch sonst um 7-8 % gefallen (ist nach dem rasanten Aufstieg der letzten Tage und Wochen auch zu erwarten gewesen), allerdings durfte der Vorfall für ein noch stärkeres Minus sorgen. Der Rauch wird sich aber wohl bald wieder verzogen haben ... .

Former chief executive of 888.com and current independent director of the company, John Anderson, has been called by French authorities for questioning over the companies activities in the country.

Anderson will meet up with French officials next month and is expected to face questioning over 888.com’s shirt sponsorship deal with French football club Toulouse, which was terminated last December.

888 responded to the news swiftly by stating it will release an update once matters become clearer.

"888 is in consultation with its legal advisers with regards to this inquiry and further announcements will be made in due course if appropriate" the company said in a statement.

The company went on further to say that French customers represented only “an immaterial percentage of its business."

The questioning of Anderson follows last years arrest of the two founders of the Austrian gambling company Bwin, Manfred Bodner and Norbert Teufelberger, as they were set to announce their sponsorship deal of Monaco football club. French football officials have now banned shirt sponsorship of their football clubs by online casinos.

Gambling in France is controlled by two monopolies run by the state: Pari-Mutuel-Urbain for betting and Francasie De Jeux for gaming activities.
